Filtering Spam in Thunderbird

Set up account as per instructions for IMAP at here NOTE: It appears that we do not currently have instructions on how to set up IMAP in Mozilla Thunderbird. I will try to write some and get them to the web as soon as possible. 2004-05-06

Click the "Tools" pull down menu. Then select the "Message Filters" option.

In the top left make sure that your Gatorlink account is the one that is selected. Click the "New..." button at the top of the right hand column of the window.

Name the filter "Spamassassin."

In the pull down menu that says "Subject" initially select the "Customize..." option at the bottom. This will open a new window titled "Customize Headers."

In the textfield at the top of the new window, type "X-Spam-Level" without the quotes and taking care to get the capitalization correct. Click the "Add" button and then the "Ok" button at the bottom.

In the same pull down that "Customize" was selected earlier, select the new "X-Spam-Level" option.

The next pull down menu should read "contains", this option is correct so leave is the way it is.

In the third field type five (5) asterisks (shift 8) just like this "*****" (without the quotes).

In the bottom half of this window click the box next to the "Move to Folder:" option and click the "New Folder..." button. This will open a new window titled "New Folder."

In the "Name:" field type "Junk". Be sure that your gatorlink (imap.ufl.edu) email Inbox is selected in the "Create as a subfolder of:" field. Click on the "Ok" button.

Next to the "Move to Folder:" select the newly created "Junk" folder in the imap.ufl.edu (Gatorlink) account.

Click the "Ok" button at the bottom of the window. This will close the "Filter Rules" window and take you back to the "Message Filters" window. Close this window (use the X in the top right of the window).
