PC Configuration

By keeping standard configurations for desktops and laptops, we reduce the amount of overhead needed for support. It also allows us to solve a problem on one computer and apply that knowledge to all the other standard computers. The machines selected were chosen because of the reputation of the vendor, the hardware choices in this line of computers, the generous terms of the warranty, and the excellent pricing available to the University.

For managed computers we use an imaging tool, Norton Ghost, to reinstall a computer very quickly. If all the computers are similar or even identical, ghosting is even more efficient.

Feel free to consult us before making any hardware upgrade decisions. Some hardware upgrades can make the computer so different from it original state it may become difficult to support. For upgrades such as memory, harddrive, or any type of hardware internal to your computer, we would appreciate if you would talk to us first as we have parts we can recommended that will make things easier as we continue to provide support.

These our the recommended configurations, and modifications can be made to fit the needs of the users. Dell Complete Care warranty is available and can be added to these systems for about $40.
