System Information

Mr. Eli Ben-Shoshan

The Jabber server currently runs on the machine named osgim01.cns.ufl.edu. This machine is an HP DL380 G3 running Gentoo linux. The machine has 2 Hyperthreading enabled Intel Xeon CPUs running a 3.2Ghz. The machine has 4Gb of ram.

Users connect to the server using either jabber.ufl.edu or ufl.edu depending on if the client can use DNS SRV records. If the client can use SRV records then it should use ufl.edu. Otherwise the client will need to set the domain to ufl.edu and the server to actually connect to as jabber.ufl.edu

jabber.ufl.edu is a CNAME to sp-virtual-im1.nerdc.ufl.edu. This was done so that in the future we can have a highly available jabber server.

Authentication is done against the campus ldap server.

Connections to the jabber server must be done in a secure fashion. Clients must be able to use TLS on the standard jabber port of 5222 or use SSL on port 5223.
