Moving DR media

Introduction

When DR media (Offsite tapes) move from one stage to another in their Life Cycle, these movements need to be recorded in the TSM server that owns the tapes. Many of these transitions happen automatically, but for some of them operator intervention is necessary. This document details this process, known as "Moving DR Media".

Definitions

For this procedure, the following definitions apply:

VOLSER

The name of the tape you wish to move.

FROMSTATE

The DR Media state the tape is in now. For CNS offsite processing, this will be:

Outgoing:

NOTMOUNTABLE

Incoming:

VAULTRETRIEVE

TOSTATE

The DR Media state to which you want to move the tape. For CNS Offsite processing, this will be:

Outgoing:

VAULT

Incoming:

ONSITERETRIEVE

SERVER

The TSM Server instance that owns the tape. See the system structure document if you're unsure.

Procedure 1.  Moving DR media, command line version

  1. Log into SERVER.

  2.   MOVe DRMedia  -
      VOLSER -
      wherestate=FROMSTATE -
      tostate=TOSTATE -
      

Procedure 2.  Moving DR media, web version

  1. Connect to the correct SERVER. If you're uncertain of the URL to use, then consult the System Structure page.

  2. Locate the DR Media screen for the state of the media you want to operate on.

    • Object view

    • Disaster Recovery Media

    • DRM Offsite Recovery Media

    • DRM Offsite Recovery Media States=FROMSTATE

  3. Fill in the following fields in the form:

    Volume Name

    VOLSER

    Move to state

    TOSTATE

  4. Click "Finish".
