There are several steps that you must take in order to get your website hosting set up with CNS. The Open Systems Group, will handle the systems aspect of your site, but this is actually the last of the three major steps to be accomplished.
The first thing that you'll need to take care of is setting up a CNS account that can be billed for the services that you'll receive. Basically you- or someone else in your organization- will need to establish an account with CNS's accounting group. If someone in your organization already has a CNS account and agrees to be billed for the services that will suffice. When you talk with accounting you'll discuss the username and other details of the account. If you need to open a new account you will place a purchase order through the myUFL website (http://my.ufl.edu). The folks in CNS's accounting department will be able to help you get thorugh this process. To contact accounting please call the CNS front desk at (352)392-2061 and ask for accounting.
Once the administrative details are out of the way the next step is to establish your website's name. Assuming that you would like a third level domain name, for example: yourname.ufl.edu To get this name you will have to deal with CNS Network Services. You will first check to make sure that the name you want is available. You will then establish this name with NetServices and tell them that the Open Systems Group will be hosting the site. They will then host your name and point it at our web cluster- where your website will be housed.
We'll work with you to finish up the process. Once everything else is ready to go we will setup the disk space where your website will live. We'll also configure our web servers to recognize requests for your website so that visitors to http://yourname.ufl.edu will serve up the appropriate data. The directories and files associated with your website will belong to the account that you created with CNS accounting, and all charges associated with the website will be billed to that account.
