In the current design of the CNS backup system, customers can register new machines to their domain without the intervention of central staff. This document describes that process.
For this procedure, the following definitions apply:
The policy domain relevant to your node creation. For most local admins, there is only one.
The name of the node you wish to define. Please use the fully qualified domain name of the machine in question.
The TSM Server instance you are planning to use. For most local admins, the server in question is 'ext'. See the system structure document if you're unsure.
Procedure 1. Registration of a TSM node. (command line)
Register the node
Having connected to the correct SERVER, use the register node command:
register node MY-NODE [initial password] DOMain=MY-DOM userid=none forcepwreset=yes
Procedure 2. Registration of a TSM node. (web interface)
Navigate to the node registration screen.
Having connected to the correct SERVER, locate the register node screen.

Fill out the following fields:
MY-NODE
Select an initial password for the machine. In most cases this can be a 'changeme' type password, as an encrypted password will be selected by the TSM client on first connection with the server.
The contents of this field should be a valid RFC822 address; mail may get sent there with reference to problems with the node
MY-DOM

Complete the process.
