Accessing the console via the VMWare client requires a VPN connection


Console access (via the VMWare client) to a virtual server requires a direct connection between the workstation that the client's running on to the ESX host it's running on. Since the ESX Hosting network is a protected network, access to the ports needed to connect to the virtual console of a virtual host now require connection via the CNSHosting VPN network.

Please note that this only affects access to the virtual console through the client. The interface to power on/power off, reset, install vmware tools, connect a cd drive or .iso are all still available without logging in to the VPN. This also has no effect to accessing your machine via RDP or ssh.

Any person who has management rights to the VMWare console has rights to connect to the CNSHosting VPN.
